No, that’s not a hidden chapter in Rob Bell’s book. It’s the chapter we write, I guess.
We’ve had some good discussions, but it seems like we could wrestle with some of these questions more deeply. I have some ideas here. In the comments, tell which is/are most compelling for you, or write a new question.
- What is our yoke at Church of the Good Shepherd?
- What is the United Methodist yoke?
- Is there something else which we want our yoke to be?
- If we were to “strip things down”, what would we keep? what could we lose?
- The call to discipleship is humbling–realistically how can we live this call?
- It’s “our turn” to take this faith forward and serve others–what does that look like?

This sounds like a good idea. I welcome the opportunity to discuss deeper.

These are all big questions that would be fun to discuss further. Some seem to build off of others so it might be beneficial to start at the top with our yoke. Without a clear understanding of our yoke it would be hard to build it up, strip it down, and then take it forward. I propose we start by defining the current yoke at CGS and discuss how it resonates with the group then dive in to building it up or stripping it down and discussing how we can take it forward. The call to discipleship seems like it would fit in well somewhere between defining the yoke and taking it forward. You’ve gotta believe it to sell it. Sounds like more than a couple weeks of discussion…whatever we do it feels good to explore.

OK, we’ll go with the yoke. Something to look at beforehand which might be a good jumping off point is the CGS Mission/Vision. I know a lot of thought went into it, but I’m also pretty sure it’s not perfect.
Of course, there’s also some of the “unofficial” descriptions: church for “PK”s, church for people that don’t like church, and somehow we have a lot of engineers and former Catholics…
